Sleep Medicine
We’re very excited about the advances in sleep medicine involving the general dentist. Dr. Conaghan and Varney have sought out additional training to provide these services to our patients. We’re encouraged by the opportunity to help our patients pursue healthier and more fulfilling lives. Studies show that as many as a quarter of our adult patients could improve their lives with proper diagnosis and treatment for sleep disorders. This number increases when you include those who snore or have special sleeping situations, like frequent travel.
To see if you are at risk, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Do you SNORE loudly (louder than talking or loud enough to be heard through closed doors)?
2. Do you often feel TIRED, fatigued, or sleepy during daytime?
3. Has anyone OBSERVED you stop breathing during your sleep?
4. Do you have or are you being treated for HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE?
5. BMI more than 35?
6. AGE over 50 years old?
7. NECK circumference > 15.75 inches?
8. MALE gender?
If you answered “yes” to 3 or more you are at high risk for obstructive sleep apnea. If you answer “yes” to any of these you may still be at a low risk sleep apnea. Call for a consultation to discuss you treatment options.
